Despite the growing commercialism, the over abundance of candy and the fact that it is so weather dependent, Halloween is a favourite holiday around our house. I do what I can to mitigate the drawbacks. Costumes are almost always kid designed and homemade which means I get a glimpse into their imaginary worlds which I love. And somehow the abundance of candy disappears more quickly than the kids seem to be able to eat it. (Does the candy fairy visit your house?)
What I love about Halloween is the chance to check in with neighbours and friends before the winter pulls us all in doors until spring. And I love the freedom the kids have to run the neighbourhood, knowing there are some many adult eyes keeping watch.
However you celebrate this holiday I hope you and your kids stay safe and you get a chance to connect with some magic and some community fun.
