Friday Fun – Free things to do with your family

by admin on October 26, 2012

There are lots of fun things happening this weekend, including Spirit Walks, movies, haunted houses and a kitchen party. You can check out our full listing here or take part in some of the free events happening this weekend.

The Guelph Civic Museum is open late on Friday as part of the FourthFridays event. You can visit the museum for free between 5- 9pm.

If you are looking for some inspiration for your pumpkin carving, head to Stone Road Mall for the UNICEF pumpkin contest. Students and celebrities from Guelph will display their carved/painted pumpkins using this year’s themes, The Muppets and Cats.  You can donate to indicate your favourite pumpkin and raise funds for UNICEF’s programs to help students in other countries go to school. This event runs Friday and Saturday.

If you are looking to be a wee bit scared before Halloween, head to the Guelph Public Library’s Hungry for a Scare event on Saturday morning.
From 9:30 – 10:30AM all ages are welcome. If you are a bit braver you can go from 10:30 – 11:30AM but enter at your own risk. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Guelph Food Bank. Presented by the GPL’s Teen Advisory Group.

We love this event. The 2012 Science Open House and Gem & Mineral Show  runs Saturday from 10am to 4pm at the University of Waterloo, in the Centre for Environmental and Information Technology. This free event is the result of a collaborative effort that brings together activities from all science departments to introduce the wonders of science to kids of all ages! The day will be filled with fun activities and science experiments for children of all ages.  Some of the activities include:
fossil fishing, gold panning, walk inside a giant cell, create a laser maze, hands on chemistry experiments, a Chemistry Magic Show and much more, including the Gem and Mineral Show.

Have a great weekend!
