It seems there are plenty of opportunities for kids to exercise their creative writing muscles. Later this week, on Friday, there is a workshop being offered by the Guelph Outdoor School:
Wild Words with Kevin Sutton
Energizing outdoor play sets the stage for a fun filled word play.
Poetry is a life skill that never stops bearing fruit. The workshop seeks to develop the child’s inner voice, self-confidence and communication skills. It helps work out frustration and make complex situations seem clearer. There’s lots to work with and no real limits. Facilitator Kevin Sutton is a local poet, spoken word performer, game developer and playwriting.
Workshop: $40.00
There is also two writing contests being sponsored by local libraries. The Guelph Public Library is offering “It’s ALL Write!” a Teen Short Story Contest.
Write a short story on any topic in 1,500 words or less for a chance to win a gift certificate to the Bookshelf in one of three categories: Grades 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. All entries must be submitted to any GPL location by 5:00 pm on Saturday, November 24th, 2012.
And The Kitchener Public Library is pleased to announce the 44th annual Dorothy Shoemaker Literary Awards Contest, which will be open from Monday, October 1st to Friday, November 30th, 2012.
Entry is Free with $2400 in prize money available to be won in two categories: poetry and prose. The contest is open to individuals in two age divisions:
