This morning at 9:30 am the West End Branch hosts West End Stories for babies birth to 5 years. There’s also the Mother Goose Storytime at 10:30 am at the Main Branch for kids from birth to 5 years.
Wednesday, October 17
At 9:30 am at the Scottsdale Branch little ones from birth to age 5 can enjoy Scottsdale Stories. There’s also a storytime at 10:30 am at the Westminster Branch for children from birth to 5 years. For older children, ages 8 to 11 there is Junior Craft Attack! at 6:00 pm at the library’s Main Branch.
Thursday, October 18
Lots of story times today. At 9:30 am there is Bullfrog Stories at the Bullfrog Mall for children birth to 5 years. Later, at 10:30 am the East Side Branch hosts East Side Stories for kids from birth to 5 years. And this evening, beginning at 6:00 pm at the Main branch there is the Teen Art Club for grades 7 and up.
Friday, October 19
At 10:30 am at the Main Branch there is Imagination Station for birth to 5 years. At after school, at 3:30 pm boys ages 7 to 10 years are invited to the Main Branch for Junior Boys READ Book Club.
Saturday October 20
The Funky Mamas are celebrating the release of their 3rd CD “Pickin’ in the Garden” and want to invite you to the party. Bring your grandma, your neighbour, a friend or whoever you wish and enjoy some family friendly music and really fun celebration!
There will be a 1:00pm performance and a 3:30pm performance with lots of music and dancing with over a dozen of the Mamas musician friends joining the Mamas on stage. Suggested donation of $10 per family. Light refreshments will be for sale at the event which is taking place at Ignatius Jesuit Centre- Orchard Park from 1pm-4:30 pm.
Walk through the haunted car barn and travel in the old, creaky streetcars along the mainline and enjoy some hot apple cider & scary snacks. If you’re a Halloween fan this is definitely a spooky experience not to be missed! Costumes encouraged. Reservations not required. Tickets sold at the door. All ages event!

No Idle Hands: Working in the Poorhouse Garden at the Wellington County Museum
Beginning at 2:00 pm, spend an afternoon stepping back in time into the shoes of an “inmate” of the House of Industry and Refuge or “Poor House” during the Great Depression and World War II years. Participate in the daily tasks that would be assigned on the Industrial Farm.
Cost is $20.00 per adult, $10.00 per child aged 12 and up, or $50.00 per family.

The Children’s Art Factory has Slime Time every morning from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Goo, goop, slime…..slimy stuff that will ooze through your fingers and be very, very wet and messy. Come prepared with an extra shirt!!!! This promises to be a very engaging and slimy week!
Spooktacular Halloween Weekend at Mountsberg Conservation Area
Start your Halloween festivities early at Mountsberg Conservation Area’s Spooktacular Halloween. This event is free with park admission and features plenty of hauntingly good fun for everyone:

They’re back….
The Twilight Zoo returns to the Elora Centre for the Arts opening on October 6, 2012 during regular gallery hours from Sunday -Wednesday with later lantern hours from Thursdays to Saturdays. Then be ready for the Scare Fair weekend when Thrills, Chills, Vendors, Food and Fun join the sculptures from October 19 – 21st! This year a few extra-special performers join in the monster mayhem including Tim Holland, ventriloquist on opening night! Admission Prices: Per Person $7. Group of 5 $30. Children 5 and under are free.
If you haven’t made the trip over to the new Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village, it’s worth checking out. There are activities daily in both the historical village and the museum that are lots of fun for kids. You can get in to both sites free if you have a membership to the Guelph Civic Museum.
Back To Nature Walks Every Sunday (including holiday weekends) at the Royal Botanical Gardens from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at locations* noted below.
Come walk with us! Did you know that a walk in the woods reduces stress no matter what your age? Enjoy the great outdoors at Royal Botanical Gardens and spend healthy, active, quality time with your friends and family. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, fox tracks, deer and other seasonal sightings. Every week is a different adventure! NOTE: Our trails are rocky and muddy. Baby carriers work well on our trails, and the kids just love the views! Most trails are not suitable for strollers, except those designed for off-sidewalk use. Dress for the weather and meet your leader at the following locations*:
1st Sunday of every month: Hendrie Valley; meet at Cherry Hill Gate parking lot
2nd Sunday of every month: Princess Point; meet at the parking lot
3rd Sunday of every month: Cootes North Shore; meet at the Nature Centre
4th Sunday of every month: Cootes South Shore; meet at the Aviary parking lot on Oak Knoll Drive, Hamilton 5th Sunday of every month: Rock Chapel; meet at the parking lot

The Donkey Sanctuary Open Days happen from early may until October. The public is welcome to visit and interact with the donkeys and stroll the beautiful grounds on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm, May 6 to October 31.
