It’s such a busy weekend this week! There are so many really wonderful things to do. Check them all out below.

Tuesday, September 11

At 10:30 am at the Main Branch children ages birth to 5 years are invited to Mother Goose Storytime.

If you are considering homeschooling your kids, you might be interested in attending the Guelph Homeschool Group general meeting on Tuesday from 7-9pm. The meeting will be at the Guelph Curling Club, 816 Woolwich St., just north of Woodlawn Road.

Wednesday, September 12

  • The Guelph Synchronized Swim Club invites kids to Try Synchro from 6-7 pm at the U of G Red Pool.  At this FREE lesson, swimmers will learn the basics of synchro, splash, and have lots of fun! The swim will end with a demonstration for parents and swimmers. Friday, September 14

At 10:30 am children ages birth to 5 years can join in at the Imagination Station at the Main Branch.  Also at 10:30 am, the Westminster Branch has Bouncing Babies for little ones from birth to 24 months.

This week’s performers: Ian Reid 
Ian Reid is a singer-songwriter living in his hometown of Rockwood, Ontario. Ian has a passion for a good story and the poignancy of everyday life in small communities. Ian’s songwriting reflects what we can and can’t change and often leaves listeners remarking on the parallels to his lyrics with their own lives16th.

Saturday, September 15

Visit the Guelph Airpark for the Tiger Boy’s Open House from 8am-5pm
The Tiger Boy’s are a group of enthusiasts that find, restore and operate vintage aircraft including many WWII trainers such as Tiger Moths and Fleet Finches. These aircraft trained pilots during WWII as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). The Open House is held on the 15th and 16th of September and numerous aircraft fly in to participate. There will be a fundraiser pancake breakfast in a hangar in view of the grass runway from which the WWII trainers will be operating and the Tiger Boy’s restoration shop and numerous hangars will be open for the public to tour. Youth Outdoors Day 2012 at Luther Marsh Wildlife Management Area 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A fun-filled day of outdoor activities that is free to all youth ages 9 to 16 and is limited to the first 200 who register in advance. Please register online at www.youthoutdoorsday.com.

Celebrate Guelph’s Community Orchard with their Planting Day celebration.

We will celebrate Guelph’s first urban community shared orchard on September 15th. Begins at 9:00 with a farmer’s Market and local food displays, tree planting at 9:30, words of welcome at 10:00. This morning at the Main Branch library at 10:30 am, kids ages 3-7 can join in with Play Mat Mania.  From 2:30 – 4:00 pm also at the Main Branch teens in grades 7 and up can participate in the Teen Art Club.

 
On Saturday morning, the Galaxy Cinema hosts Cineplex Family Favourites at 11 am. Watch a family favourite film each week for only $2.50. A portion of proceeds go towards supporting Starlight Children’s Foundation. This week’s feature: Thomas and the Magic Railroad   Mr. Conductor’s supply of magic gold dust, which allows him to travel between Shining Time and Thomas’s island, is critically low. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know how to get more. Meanwhile, Thomas is fending off attacks by the nasty diesel engines. Getting more gold dust will require help from Mr. C’s slacker cousin, his new friend Lilly, and her morose grandfather, plus the secret engine he’s hidden all these years and couldn’t get running. ZUMBA in the Square
Come out and join ZUMBA KAREN for a free class in St.George’s Square on Saturday at noon. We will be showing you a little of what you can expect at the 2nd Annual Guelph Latino Festival the following Saturday September 22nd. Everyone is welcome to participate! No dance experience necessary! Bring your friends and family and dance the noon hour away in front of Capistrano’s and IF Footwear.

Doors Open Waterloo Region celebrates its 10th anniversary, with 37 participating sites and a number of special events.
 
Visit Greenway Blooming Centre Breslau for their Butterfly Days. This special annual event will run Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm each day. The Monarch Butterflies are already starting to gather for their long journey to Mexico. Kids can take part in this amazing migration by releasing your very own butterfly into the wild. Each Monarch is marked with a special tracking tag on it.  Through the Monarch Watch program, at the University of Kansas, this tag is used to track its migration and information is sent back the participants if their butterfly is found in Mexico.
 
Pre-Teen Video Dance Fundraiser at the Evergreen Community Centre. The dance runs from 7:00pm until 10:00pm and is open to all students in the community ages 7-13. Eden Mills Writers’ Festival 12-6pm
The 24th annual Eden Mills Writers’ Festival taking place along the banks of the Eramosa River in the picturesque village of Eden Mills. Telling Tales – A Family Festival at Westfield Heritage Village
Telling tales is a free festival where families can discover stories together, it’s set in a beautiful historic Westfield Heritage Village, it’s a day when we can leave our technology behind and stories and history are coming alive.  This is a free event, full of readings, entertainment and fun. If you haven’t made the trip over to the new Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village, it’s worth checking out. There are activities daily in both the historical village and the museum that are lots of fun for kids. You can get in to both sites free if you have a membership to the Guelph Civic Museum.

Come walk with us! Did you know that a walk in the woods reduces stress no matter what your age? Enjoy the great outdoors at Royal Botanical Gardens and spend healthy, active, quality time with your friends and family. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, fox tracks, deer and other seasonal sightings. Every week is a different adventure! NOTE: Our trails are rocky and muddy. Baby carriers work well on our trails, and the kids just love the views! Most trails are not suitable for strollers, except those designed for off-sidewalk use. Dress for the weather and meet your leader at the following locations*:
1st Sunday of every month: Hendrie Valley; meet at Cherry Hill Gate parking lot
2nd Sunday of every month: Princess Point; meet at the parking lot
3rd Sunday of every month: Cootes North Shore; meet at the Nature Centre

The Donkey Sanctuary Open Days happen from early may until October. The public is welcome to visit and interact with the donkeys and stroll the beautiful grounds on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm, May 6 to October 31.
