Friday Fun – Free things to do with your family

by admin on August 24, 2012

It’s a fun weekend!

Friday night, head downtown for Fourth Friday. There’s a tonne of stuff to do for families. Start at 4:30 with a Free Family Dance at 26 Eramosa Road. There will be lessons in ballroom and Latin dance….dance games…..punch, coffee, tea and snacks will be served. Later, help turn Carden Street into the Paper Road, and then settle in to watch the Wizard Of Oz at Market Square. Check out the website for all the fourthfriday offerings.

On Saturday morning, learn about what lives in the river at the Swamp Tromp at Rockwood Conservation Area, at 10 am.  You’ll find yourself dip-netting with a naturalist, looking for frogs, fish and invertebrates near the Harris Mill ruins. Be prepared to get your shoes wet. Meet at the Mill Ruins. Free with park admission. Please visit the website for more information.

On Saturday night there’s another party and who doesn’t love a disco party. The Downtown Guelph Business Association is throwing a Disco Splash party this Saturday to treat Market Square to a night of 1970s glamour. Local, eight-piece disco band Spank! will be the featured performer at the party that is free to residents of all ages. The party begins at 9. Come ready for fun – and maybe a bit of splashing in the pool!

And all weekend long you can check out the Buskers Carnival in downtown Waterloo. All the events there are free.
