Lots of great things at the library today.
At 10:00 am at the West End branch kids ages 4 and up can participate in Junior Dress Up. At the Bullfrog branch there is DIY Craft: Mouse & Cheese! for ages 4 years and up. At 10:30 am at the East Side branch, take part in Junior Bouncing Babies for ages birth to 18 months. At the Main Branch at 10:30 kids ages 2 – 6 will enjoy Slow Motion Animal Storytime. This afternoon at the Main Branch at 2:30 kids ages 7 and up can get creative with Jenga Stamps.
And to wind down tonight 6:30 PM East Side has Junior Sleepytime for ages 2 years and up at 6:30 pm.
Tuesday, August 21
Head to the East Side branch at 10:00 am for Junior Play Mat Mania for ages 3 to 7. Over at Westminster branch at 10:30 kids ages 2 to 6 can take part in years Wacky Weather Storytime. The Main Branch as a Ages 2 to 6 years. At 10:30 am, the Main branch welcomes a special guest to their Be a Tree program for kids ages 4 and up.
This afternoon at 2:00 at the Westminster branch kids ages 7 and up can play Minute to Win It! and at 2:3 teens are invited to a Drawing Lab to learn lots of tips and tricks. It takes place at 2:30 at the Main Branch.
Cool off with a Free Tim Hortons Public Swim from 2-4 pm at the West End Community Centre.
Load up the van. It’s $15 Carload night at the Mustang Drive-in.

Wellington County Museum Simple Pleasures

Wednesday Evening Walks at the Arboretum begin at 7 p.m. at the J.C. Taylor Centre at the Arboretum at the University of Guelph. These 1 ½ hour family friendly walks will be on a different topic each week and are $2 / person. This week: Taking Time for the Little Guys – Starting an Insect Collection. Our world is full of bugs whether you like it or not, so why not love it! We will figure out where and how to find some of the fantastic and beautiful insects that call Ontario home. We will also talk about the two major ways to start your own insect collection: pinning or photographing.

This morning at 10:00 AM Westminster Branch hosts Play Mat Mania for ages 3 to 7. At 10:30 am the East Side branch has The Lorax Storytime for ages 2 to 6. The Cars 2 movie is playing at 10:30 at the Main Branch for kids ages 2 and up. In the afternoon kids ages 5 and up can enjoy Angry Birds at 2:30 at the East Side Branch and teens will love creating with Picture Perfect Painting at 2:30 at the Main Branch.
Head to Rockwood Conservation Area at 2:00 pm for a Bug Hunt
Join the naturalist and explore the field and forest looking for those creepy crawlers lurking under logs and in the branches. Using nets and spy glasses, you’ll see just how beautiful bugs can be. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the trailer by the mini-putt. Free with park admission. Please visit the website for more information.

Every Thursday, July through August, learn about fire safety and accident prevention. Meet emergency responders. Check out the emergency vehicles, including fire trucks, police vehicles and ambulances. This week the Fire Department will be at Brant Avenue Public School from 6:30–7:45 pm. Enjoy the Wellington County Museum a Concert on the Steps. This week featuring the Same Latitude As Rome which is a folk band. At 10:30 am little ones from birth to 24 months are invited to Bouncing Babies at the Westminster branch. At the Main branch at 10:30 there’s Infant Art for babies from birth to 19 months. And at 2:30 at the Main branch kids ages 7 and up can enjoy a Marvelous Mexican Fiesta.
From 10:30 to 11:30 at the Guelph Enabling Garden in Riverside Park, please join the Guelph Guild of Storytellers for another season of wonderful stories along the river bank in a beautiful garden. St George’s Square Noon Hour Concert
This week’s performers: Jason Raso
Jason Raso has a funk heart and a jazz head. They are hard wired together by the 4 strings of his bass guitar, and an innate ability to craft music that will turn you into a bobble head. It’ll make you feel like you’re the coolest cat on the block.
Fourth Fridays
This month’s Fourth Friday’s sounds like a blast. There’s a Free Family Dance with lessons in ballroom and Latin dance….dance games…..punch, coffee, tea and snacks will be served. 4:30pm to 6:30pm at 26 Eramosa Road.
The Macdonald Stewart Art Centre in partnership with the City of Guelph will be doing a project called The Paper Road. Participants will paper Carden Street from Wilson to Wyndham Streets. The street will be entirely covered in yellow paper from 7pm – 9pm and the community will be invited to contribute to the road by adding drawings, photographs, etc. Images from this event will be shared with our sister cities Treviso, Loria, and Castelfranco Veneto in Italy. Learn about what lives in the river at the Swamp Tromp at Rockwood Conservation Area, at 10 am. Come and explore the water world of Rockwood. You’ll find yourself dip-netting with a naturalist, looking for frogs, fish and invertebrates near the Harris Mill ruins. Be prepared to get your shoes wet. Meet at the Mill Ruins. On Saturday morning, the Galaxy Cinema hosts Cineplex Family Favourites at 11 am. Watch a family favourite film each week for only $2.50. A portion of proceeds go towards supporting Starlight Children’s Foundation. This week’s feature: Night At The Museum When good-hearted dreamer Larry Daley (Stiller) is hired as night watchman at the Museum of Natural History, he soon discovers that an ancient curse brings all the exhibits to life after the sun sets.

Linamar Family Fun Day and Open House from 11am-3pm
Join Linamar for their Family Fun Day and Open House. This event is open to the community. There will be carnival rides, train ride, dunk tank, bake sale, bbq, face painting and much, much more! All proceeds raised will go to United Way. The event takes place at The Frank Hasenfratz Centre, 700 Woodlawn Rd. W., across from the Galaxy Movie Theatre.

Waterloo is hosting its annual Buskers Carnival. This free event takes place in downtown Waterloo beginning on Thursday evening. There’s a full schedule here.
If you haven’t made the trip over to the new Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village, it’s worth checking out. There are activities daily in both the historical village and the museum that are lots of fun for kids. You can get in to both sites free if you have a membership to the Guelph Civic Museum.

Enjoy the great outdoors at Royal Botanical Gardens and spend healthy, active, quality time with your friends and family. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, fox tracks, deer and other seasonal sightings. Every week is a different adventure! NOTE: Our trails are rocky and muddy. Baby carriers work well on our trails, and the kids just love the views! Most trails are not suitable for strollers, except those designed for off-sidewalk use. The Donkey Sanctuary Open Days happen from early may until October. The Public is welcome to visit and interact with the donkeys and stroll the beautiful grounds on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm, May 6 to October 31. Bug and Butterfly University At Greenway Blooming Centre Breslau
Every Sunday and Wednesday afternoon throughout July and August. Fun programs for all ages, created and delivered by John Powers, internationally known as the Butterfly Man® and the Bug Man®. Along with Marco, John teaches students about the growing and hatching of butterflies. He displays and explains his incredible collection of insects, some of which are entries in the Guinness Book of World Records. Guest speakers are featured as well as artists and photographers.

City splash pads and wading pools are free all summer. Splash pads are located at Hanlon Creek Waverley Park, Norm Jary and West End Community Centre and are open daily from June 28 to September 3, from 11 am-7pm. The city’s wading pools are located at Sunny Acres, Mico Valeriote, Exhibition Parks and are open from June 28 to September 3, from 12-6 pm. The fountain at Market Square at City hall is operational from 9 am to 10 pm daily.
