Friday Fun – Free things to do with your family

by admin on August 3, 2012

There are some great activities and events happening this long weekend.

Celebrate Guelph’s heritage on Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm with the John Galt Day activities happenning at Market Square in front of City Hall. Bring the kids down for musical entertainment, an open house at Locomotive 6167, crafts and face painting, historical walks, and free admission to the Guelph Civic Museum. It’s forecasted to be a warm day, so the kids might enjoy a splash in the wading pool or a chance to stand under the fountains.

Canada Food Day celebrations are also happening at City Hall on Saturday. There will be vendors for the market, as well as samples of Guelph’s local foods.

On Sunday, Downtown Guelph is hosting the Lions’ Club Show ‘N Shine car show. Come and check out some of Guelph’s most interesting and well kept cars.

IF you would like to add a little music to your weekend, head to Cambridge for the Mill Race Folk Festival, happening all weekend long. You can find a full schedule including information about the children’s activities at their website.

Don’t forget if you have a GRCA membership, the Bug Hunt program at Rockwood  and the Frog Slog at Guelph Lake Island are free with admission. And your family membership to the Guelph Civic Museum will get you in free of charge at Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village as well as Joseph Schneider Haus  in Kitchener.

For the full round up of all the events happening in the area, check out our weekly summary.  Have a great, and safe, long weekend!
