Some of our birthday crowns on a trip to the beach
We’re celebrating a birthday at our house this week, which means we will dig out the birthday crown, and make a banner poster announcing just who is turning how old in our family. We often devise a scavenger hunt for the morning which sends the birthday child on a somewhat wild goose chase to find the gifts. The gifts are simple, and usually include at least one hand made item, and always a book.
There’s always a bit of time with special grandparents, a meal of their choice and a special family outing. We all take the day off our regular schedule so we can celebrate together.
These traditions have evolved over the years, but there are many I wish I had started when our kids were younger. If you are looking for some ideas to spark new traditions for your family, Parenting magazine has some lovely ideas for simple birthday traditions to start when kids are young.
I love the idea from Modern Parents Messy Kids to have a count down with cards or love notes from special people in our children’s lives.
And then there are some sweet ideas here, about birthday letters and telling the story of the day they were born.
How do you celebrate birthdays at your house?
