It seems to be a week of celebrations. Monday marks Chinese New Year so this weekend we hope to make a few crafts and decorations to go with our traditional party. 2012 marks the Year of the Dragon which will go over well with my kids who love the mystical creatures. No doubt all manner of Lego, Playmobil and stuffed dragons will join us at the table. Here are some resources I’ve gathered.
As puppets are always a hit at our house, we’ll make this dragon puppet . I love this idea for more dragon decorations and I’d like to try this Draw A Dragon exercise as well.
For other decorations we will make some lanterns of different types of course, some fire crackers for the door, and maybe some papercut symbols and a good fortune baner with using these symbols.
These online games look good and there are crafts and colouring pages here for kids who want to do a bit more exploring.
We plan to make some of these yummy recipes and these cookies for dessert.
We’ll write some fortunes for each other. This year I might work up the courage to make real fortune cookies. If not we can always work with the felt version.
Check back on Saturday for a list of Chinese New Year books from the Guelph Public Library.
